Phone dialing system switches at Dover AFB Published Jan. 28, 2009 By Airman 1st Class Shen-Chia Chu 436th AW Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- Team Dover members are now required to use the seven-digit dialing standard to make a call on base. Dover AFB is one of 12 bases directed by Air Mobility Command to revise the base telephone dialing sequence to provide a larger pool of dialing numbers that can be distributed out to base customers. "Moving Dover (AFB) from the four-digit to seven-digit dialing will greatly expand our growth potential as we continue to uphold our base missions," said Maj. Brandon Robinson, 436th Communications Squadron commander. According to Tech. Sgt. Jason Blaisdell, 436th CS, a majority of bases stateside have already converted and Dover AFB was one of the last to be converted. "Dover AFB telephone operations has been working with AMC, contracted vendors and base organizations to ensure a smooth transition for the conversion," said Sergeant Blaisdell. "Many hours of stealthy preparation has been accomplished to prepare base organizations, equipment and our Airmen for a seamless conversion to base phone users." Team Dover members will simply dial the number '677' before the extension number. "Some phone users will face problems with auto dialing settings set to their phone and voicemail," said Sergeant Blaisdell. "Users will need to reprogram their auto dial feature and dial their voicemail mailbox number with seven digits instead of four." The change will not affect phone service for Airmen living in housing on base with commercial numbers or the emergency number 911. "Team Dover has been overwhelmingly supportive of this change and our project team has worked out viable plans of action to mitigate any mission impacts and critical areas that will be impacted by this change," said Major Robinson. "With base-wide support and teams such as this, I believe Team Dover is bound for success on many more fronts to come."
