The 436th Logistics Readiness Squadron defeated the 436th Mission Support Squadron 20 - 7 in both teams' first game Oct. 7.

MSS had a rough start with their first play resulting in an interception, which quickly turned into a touchdown for LRS in the first few minutes of play.

"Defensively we were a little slow, offensively we weren't on the same page," said Phillip Johnson, MSS assistant coach.

The game would go back and forth the next couple of plays with flags being thrown on both sides before MSS would be able to make the catch in the end zone for their first touchdown. Their cheers were quickly quieted though as the extra point turned into an interception, keeping MSS one point behind LRS.

The next play had LRS quarterback throwing all the way to the end zone, but a flag on the play cost them the touchdown, leaving the score 7 - 6 at the end of the first half.

"They would have beat us 30 to nothing if it hadn't been for the penalties," said Johnson.

"I haven't ever seen that many penalties in a game," agreed Eddie Anderson, 436th LRS coach.

Three more interceptions in the second half were deadly to MSS hopes of a comeback, leaving the final score 20-7.

"We had a lot of odds against us in the beginning, but in the end talent speaks for itself," said Anderson.
