The country's largest annual workplace charity campaign begins Monday at Dover Air Force Base with a kickoff luncheon at The Landings Club at 11:30 a.m.

The luncheon will consist of an agency fair, with information from various agencies who directly benefit from the Combined Federal Campaign, and will feature two guest speakers.

The luncheon is only one of several events that are scheduled for the campaign, which allows military and federal civilians to contribute to thousands of local and national non-profit organizations.

"This is a chance for military and federal civilians to make contributions to eligible non-profit organizations that provide health and human service benefits throughout the world," said Capt. Redahlia Person, 436th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron C-5 Aircraft Maintenance Unit officer-in-charge and this season's Team Dover CFC representative.

This year's CFC theme is "Be a Star in Someone's Life," which encapsulates what CFC is about - helping others, said Captain Person.

In addition to individual contributions, several large fundraisers will be held during the campaign, which runs through Nov. 14.

One such fundraiser is the Commander's Dunk Tank, scheduled for Oct. 17. Airmen will be able to nominate their favorite commander for the dunk tank, and the top three vote getters will be sent to the dunk tank. To nominate your favorite commander, simply contact your group point of contact, said Captain Person.

One of the recent highlights of Team Dover's CFC has been the emphasis on face-to-face contact between key workers and military and federal civilians.

"With face-to-face contact, it's more personal, respects one's privacy and gives contributors a chance to be at ease," said Captain Person. "This also allows contributors to ask questions and receive immediate feedback."

The captain has not been planning Dover's CFC alone, and appreciates all the work volunteers have put in.

"I would like to thank everyone for the support they have given to ensure the base has a successful campaign this year," said Captain Person. "Everyone can make a difference by just donating a dollar and 'Be a Star in Someone's Life.'"
