Why is the theater closed, and why don't they post a sign?

Q: I went to the base theater on August 16 for the evening show, and discovered a crowd of more than 30 people standing outside the door. Apparently the theater was not opening for the movie. Someone in the crowd said they hadn't opened for the afternoon show either. I even saw a child chasing down his parents' car in the parking lot, because they had dropped him off for the movie and were leaving. There was no sign posted on the door, the billboard hadn't been changed in more than a week, and the phone recording didn't mention any closures for the theater. If the theater is going to be closed, they should work out a better way to notify the community, rather than just leaving the doors locked.

A: I wholeheartedly agree. Twice recently the theater has failed to open without notice or signage--once due to an accident on the Bay Bridge which prevented the movie from arriving on time, and then a second time due to employee issues. I have personally discussed this issue with AAFES management and have requested that appropriate signage be posted. Because of the expected hiring delay, I have elected to use the closure to begin the renovation of the theater. Over the next 4 months, we will team with AAFES and utilize money from our Installation Excellence Award to upgrade the projectors, snack bar area, restrooms, seating, flooring, screen, curtains and sound system. I'll be certain that the grand re-opening is advertised well in advance. And I'll personally see to it that the upgraded theater and personnel reflect the Dover Excellence that will make you proud to be associated with Dover AFB.
