Dover Air Force Base immunization clinic announced Monday the flu vaccine is available for anyone eligible for care at the military treatment facility.

In addition to shots given at the third-floor 436th Medical Group immunization clinic, a flu shot clinic is scheduled for Wednesday at the 436th MDG, second-floor conference room 2A.

"No appointment is needed," said Master Sgt. Jett Bahar, 436th MDG Personnel and Administration Flight chief. "Simply stop by and present your ID card and we will gladly provide the vaccine."

Flu season is now here, he continued. One of the best ways to protect against the flu is by receiving an annual vaccine.

For all Airmen, the vaccine is mandatory, said Maj. Mared Beling, 436th MDG health care integrator.

Still, who else should get the flu vaccine?

Though it is a personal choice for some, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that certain groups of people (who are at risk for serious complications from the flu) be vaccinated each year. Some of the highest priority groups are:
- All six to 23-month-old children.
- Everyone 65 years or older.
- Those who live in nursing homes.
- Those with chronic illness such as diabetes, heart and kidney disease, and immune deficiencies like HIV/AIDS or leukemia.
- People with breathing problems like asthma or emphysema.
- People who can transmit flu to high-risk groups such as health care workers, child care providers and caregivers for those in high-risk groups.
