For the first time in years, Dover Air Force Base enlisted Airmen, as well as Airmen from across the Air Force, started fiscal year 2008 without first-term Career Job Reservation restrictions in their career fields.

In recent years, Airmen had to compete for a limited number of available jobs within their Air Force specialty codes.

However, since the Air Force Personnel Center expects to meet enlisted authorized end strength through normal attrition, "(Oct. 1) the Air Staff has lifted the Career Job Reservation constrained specialty codes until further notice," said Master Sgt. Tangie Ulrich, 436th Airlift Wing career assistance advisor.

This will be the first time in four years Airman won't have to compete for the privilege of reenlisting in their AFSC, said Chief Master Sgt. Christine Williams, AFPC enlisted skills management branch chief.

"Airmen must be in good standing to be eligible for the automatic application process to work," said Sergeant Ulrich. "If (an Airman) is disqualified due to Article 15 punishment, control roster or other administrative actions, the unit commander must make a written determination to consider the Airman for a CJR."

The commander's written determination is the only means for an Airman who is not in good standing to continue to serve. "If the commander elects to not nominate the Airman for a CJR they will separate on their date of separation," said Sergeant Ulrich.

All first-term Airmen selected by their commanders as eligible to re-enlist will receive a CJR once they enter the first month of their reenlistment eligibility window.

Aside from the fact there will be no waiting lists, Airmen will not notice any difference from previous years. The automated processing will continue to notify Airmen of their CJRs anytime they become eligible during their reenlistment window, even though there are no restrictions.

Enlistment extensions will have no impact on an Airman's CJR eligibility window. Eligibility windows are 35-38 months for National Call to Service enlistees, 35-43 months for four-year enlistees and 59-67 months for six-year enlistees.

The CJR program will run unrestricted unless Air Force officials need to make enlisted force adjustments to meet authorized strength levels.
