Air Force's 60th Anniversary celebrated around the world Published Sept. 20, 2007 By Tech. Sgt. Kevin Wallace 436th AW Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- Nearly 700 members of Team Dover celebrated the Air Force's 60th Birthday with a 'Heritage to Horizons' Ball held at Dover Downs Saturday. The day commemorated the 60 years since President Harry Truman set the wheels in motion that directed the establishment of the United States Air Force as a separate service. Airmen celebrated the Air Force and the achievements made here at Dover Air Force Base over the past decades. In the spirit of Air Force heritage, rather than donning their mess dress or semi-formal uniforms like the rest of the crowd, some Airmen were chosen to dress in uniforms of the past. While the men and women of the combined Eagle and Liberty wings were swingin' away to the sounds of the 287th Delaware National Guard Army Band, other wings around the world were carrying on their own celebrations.
