Team Dover receives news to desktops Published Aug. 9, 2007 By Tech. Sgt. Kevin Wallace 436th AW Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- Dover Airmen can now view eight channels of television at work on their computer desktops. Using a new system called Video Furnace, Team Dover will have the ability to stream two local television channels, three news channels, The Weather Channel, Dover's Commander's Access Channel and the Pentagon Channel. "(This came) as a result of cost saving initiatives and budget realities," said Capt. Mark Slik, 436th Communications Squadron Operations Flight commander. "We started delivering cable TV to your units, via a new system, Aug. 1." The base is transforming capabilities to deliver core TV and situational-awareness services over the base network, said the captain. "This new system will replace the regular cable connections we currently have in your buildings," he continued. "As part of that process we are working with local providers to cut commercial cable feeds across the base and replacing them with Video Furnace. "The system enables set-top boxes, similar to digital cable boxes already in use," said Captain Slik. "We have a limited number of these for use in common areas where you need to broadcast the channels on a normal TV set. If your needs exceed the number of set-top boxes we have available, more can be purchased for $350 each box. But, if possible, consider using the web address to get your cable TV needs meet, using a TV and converter box." "We know this solution will fully meet Team Dover's mission needs in the long haul."
