512th OG upsets 436th AMXS 9-7 Monday Published July 5, 2007 By Tech. Sgt. Kevin Wallace 436th AW Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- The 512th Operations Group bested the 436th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron in a tight game here Monday. The Reservists beat the Maintainers 9 - 7, over six innings at the softball field near The Landings Club. Adrian Perez, AMXS, upset his rival Reservists when he smashed the ball out of the park in the first inning. The Maintainers added another run and kept their lead through the first with a 2 - 1 advantage. However, the 512th wasn't ready to call it quits. They hammered in five runs in the second and third to gain a 6 - 5. The young Reservists, a group of three children of 512th members, sat in the dug out cheering on their team along the way. For some, intramural softball is more than just a competition, it's a family outing. Harry White takes his son to most of his games. "My dad is like Ryan Howard," said Harrison White (son of Harry White) as his eyes lit up with the joy of comparing his father to Philadelphia's legendary Howard. He then went on to explain that the Phillies are his favorite team, with a little additional prompting from dad. Harrison's attention, however, was soon drawn back to the diamond when Maintainers' Thomas Opalecky and Kyle Ward drove back-to-back home runs deep over the fence. Unfortunately, AMXS would not come back. The Reservists' offense and defense were too strong. While holding the Maintainers from any more runs, the 512th wrecking crew drove three more players over home plate, garnering the victory. Softball season is in full swing with games played nearly every Monday through Thursday at the base diamonds. Teams always appreciate support from their units and, like in the case of Harrison, family members, too.
