Heavy Lifters is open for business Published Jan. 22, 2016 By Senior Airman Zachary Cacicia 436th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- A new food option is now available for Team Dover's hungry masses. The Heavy Lifters flight line food kiosk officially opened for business Jan. 15, 2016, in Building 794 on Dover AFB, Delaware. "This has been a long time coming," said Col. Michael Grismer, 436th Airlift Wing commander. "We have the best maintenance in the Air Mobility Command for the C-5[M Super Galaxy] and C-17[A Globemaster III]; you deserve something like this." The opening of this kiosk was the final improvement of Air Force Food Transformation Initiative at Dover. This new kiosk provides immediate food access to the north side of the base, an area that had been underserved in the past. In addition to this kiosk, the Paterson Dinning Facility was recently remodeled and revamped under this same program. "About a year ago, we promised you that we would bring you food transformation as part of building resilient Airmen," said Lt. Col. Donald Tasker, 436th Force Support Squadron commander. "I hope that we delivered on that request, I think you are really going to like what this brings to your team." Aside from the benefits of having a new food service location, the kiosk provides expanded hours. "Our main dining facility closes at 6:30 p.m.," said Senior Master Sgt. Michelle Browning, 436th FSS Sustainment Services Flight superintendent. "This facility stays open until 10 p.m." This gives Airmen, especially maintenance Airmen, an additional two to three hours at night in which they have food options on base. "This is all about increasing productivity, allowing you to get healthy meals," said Grismer. One of these maintainers, Airman 1st Class Cody Phillips, 736th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron communications/navigation, believes that Heavy Lifters will really benefit himself and his co-workers. "It's great," said Phillips. "I've used it several times already and it's great for people who work 12-hour shifts and nights." Heavy Lifters is designed to provide Airmen an assortment of food choices. "Even though it is advertised as grab-and-go," said Browning. "An individual is able to request entrees; yes they can get sandwiches, but they can also get hot meals." Heavy Lifters is located in Building 794, and is open to all Team Dover personnel seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. "On behalf of all of our food team and force support squadron as a whole, " said Tasker. "Thanks a ton for letting us bring you Heavy Lifters."
