Technology is a catalyst in promoting change in media delivery methods. Social media has cut delivery time of news down to the time it takes a person to type. This increased delivery time has its faults. The rush to get information out first, sometimes leads to shortcuts being taken in fact checking. Sometimes this leads to the news being reported incorrectly.

This isn't the first time technology has revolutionized the method of delivering news.

Prior to the invention of the telegraph in 1845, news stories tended to be long and flowery in their prose. The stories were written in chronological style that would bury important elements of the story at the end where they could be missed. The telegraph had one major drawback; it was very expensive and charged by the character. This forced journalists to write in a more concise style, or risk bankrupting their newspapers. Journalists wrote the most important facts in the first paragraphs of their story in what is called an inverted pyramid style. This style is still taught to journalists today.
