DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. – Through its Adopt a Unit Program, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6483 of Milford, Delaware, adopted the 436th Logistics Readiness Squadron May 19, 2017, during a ceremony at the post.
"This will be a very tight partnership," said Lt. Col. Todd Walker, 436th LRS commander. "I never knew we had this opportunity. So we are going to pursue it, and this will open doors to many, many other things to come."
The Adopt a Unit Program’s goal is to develop supportive relationships with units before, during and after deployments to help deliver the vast network of resources the VFW has available to the military. This mutual agreement includes voluntary support for any and all morale events, special projects and community relations, building opportunities as agreed upon by liaisons from both organizations. The partnership does not commit any governmental resources, manning or financial assistance of any form.
"As was mentioned, the key word at this post is family," said Ed Moczulski, VFW Post 6483 commander. "We are family, anyone who joins this post is family."
This adoption was organized by Tech. Sgt. Steven Hall, 436th LRS vehicle management, who is a member of both the LRS and VFW Post 6483.
"When I joined the post, I started researching some of the things that the VFW offers and does, and I stumbled upon the Adopt a Unit Program," said Hall. "This made me think about my squadron. I talked to both the post here and with Lt. Col. Walker, and they were both super excited about the idea."
The VFW is a nonprofit veterans’ service organization comprised of eligible veterans and military service members from the active, guard and reserve forces.
