Sinek speaks to Team Dover Published March 19, 2013 By Senior Airman Jared Duhon 436th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- Simon Sinek, motivational speaker and author, toured andĀ gave nine talks to more than 800 Airmen and personnel March 14 at Dover Air Force Base, Del. "The first contact I had with Simon Sinek was after receiving email for volunteers needed for greeters," said Master Sgt. Matthew Galiszuski, 436th Medical Group first sergeant. "I then did research on the internet about him and what I found was something I believe in and it got me excited." Sinek wrote 'Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action,' which was on the 2012 chief of staff reading list. He inspires those around him by asking what their best memories are and to find patterns in those memories, which allows them to see what their values are or their why. "One of the greatest things about the concept of 'why' is that if people understand the purpose of their actions then they can find more joy and fulfillment in what they do," said Sinek. "Without a purpose to your actions you either won't give it your all or just won't do it, but once a purpose is found value is instantly added to ones actions." Sinek said he jumps at any opportunity to speak to the military because it is a great honor to serve those who serve others. "There is something remarkable about a group of people who volunteer to do something they won't get rich or famous doing but you do it because you have the deep confidence that others would do it for you." said Simon Sinek, author of 'Start with Why'. "These people make what I consider to be the best organizations in the world." Sinek closed his visit to Dover AFB in front of a packed base theater. One Airman who was impressed was Airman Maura Tunney, 436th Airlift Wing command post controller. "It was amazing to hear him speak, I also like that he is very supportive of the military and appreciated that he understands how we operate," said Tunney. "The way he talked about how we interact with each other was pretty accurate and it's something that a lot of people in the civilian world don't understand, I have my wingman's back and they've got mine."
