Unlike Superman or the U.S. Postal Service, weather was able to delay the start of the Dover Air Force Base intramural flag football season. But despite the delay, the teams and players are excited to get started and begin the fight for the base championship.

There are a number of teams that will be vying to win it all, but only one team has a chance to repeat--the 736th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron.

Assistant coach Chris Wigley said his team is looking forward to defending its title.

"We're looking to repeat," said Wigley. "I think we've got a good shot at it. We've got a good portion of our team back from last season, but we also have a lot of new guys. We're ready to go."

Wigley said team continuity would be one of the keys to his team repeating as champs.

"We need to keep the same people throughout the season," said Wigley. "If we can have the same people showing up who know our plays, we can play a little quicker."

One team which will be gunning for the 736th AMXS is their rivals, the 436th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. Assistant coach Nicholas Pieller said his team is hungry for the championship after losing in the finals to the 736 AMXS last season.

"We're hungry for a win, we're hungry for a championship," Pieller said. "We got robbed last year and this year we feel it is our turn. We brought home the softball championship and we want to win the flag football championship."

Other teams that should make a run at the title are the 436th Security Forces Squadron, the 436th Medical Group, 436th MXS and the 436th Civil Engineer Squadron.

Wigley said the rivalry between the 736th and 436th AMXS is natural.

"We're all in the same building," said Wigley. "A lot of guys in the 736th used to work in the 436th and crossed over. Our rivalry is not just in sports, but on the flightline, who's the better maintainer. It transfers over from the flightline to the field."
