The summer heat did nothing to deter two teams that had taken to the field to test their softball skills.

The 436th Comptrollers Squadron, combined with the 436th Maintenance Operation Squadron joined forces to defeat the 9th Airlift Squadron 13 - 3 June 9, 2011.

The game started and 436 CPTS/MOS, also known as 'Dirty Dawgs,' was off to a hot start, scoring eight runs in the first inning while shutting out their opposition. The 9th answered back late in the second inning with a double, but were unable to maintain their momentum, only scoring one more run during the third inning.

"The game went extremely well for us," said Tech. Sgt. Jason Pulido, Dirty Dawgs coach. "We were able to capitalize on some of their mistakes. Our fast start was what got us the win, we put up eight runs in the first inning and held them scoreless, which really deflated their team and helped us hold them at bay any time they started to rally."

The game came to a close at the end of the fifth inning with the 9 AS unable to score a single run.

"Our folks aren't hitting right now and our defense is hurting us," said Master Sgt. Allen Diffenbaugh, 9 AS coach. "We have great players, but being a flying squadron it's hard to have the same folks out there for every game. It changes day by day. We are going to be having more practices to try and see where we can play people to benefit the team."
