Weather dampened the Dover Air Force Base Open House and Air Show Saturday, but patrons still journeyed from near and far to enjoy a day of fun - Air Force style.

Inclement weather caused a delay in Saturday's portion of the Open House and Air Show, with the gates opening at noon and alternate parking implemented, still many patrons were onsite at noon, ready to enjoy the day's activities.

The Gibbs family came from New England to enjoy the show and would not let bad weather deter them, they said. Half of the family traveled from New Hampshire and the other half from New Jersey.

Likewise, Katilynne Miller came from Tyler, Texas, and was going to enjoy every minute she was here, she said.

"I am about to ride the flight simulator," said Ms. Miller, as she waited for her turn to fly a P-51 Mustang 4D Simulator Ride with her sister, Senior Airman Krystal Miller, 436th Communications Squadron.

Both Miller sisters were excited to see the coming U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds portion of the show. In fact, Airman Miller said she recently applied for a special duty with the Thunderbirds and was waiting to see if she got accepted for what she called "a difficult team to become a member of."

In the mean time, Airman Miller was nudging her sister toward joining the Air Force after she completes high school, she said with a wink and a smile.

As the Miller sisters entered the simulator, rain continued to fall. Moments later, the clock struck noon and radios began to announce the gates were open for patrons.

The Saturday Open House and Air Show has been off and on today and is scheduled for normal operating hours of 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday.
