As the Food Transformation Initiative is underway, Dover Air Force Base's Commissary is providing new ways for Airmen to get a quick and nutritious meal during the duty day.

The Commissary has a variety of single-serve options such as grab-and-go items, sushi and a newly installed salad bar by the deli and bakery department. The salad bar features 18 items and is operated Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"We started up a brand new salad bar that we operate for four hours a day," said Wayne Lintz, Assistant Commissary Officer. "If we see a demand for it, we will operate it for dinner and on the weekends as well."

The Commissary has a variety of options for Airmen who are living in the dorms to assist them with shopping while the Patterson Dining Facility is closed. Airmen can buy single servings of meat, fruit and deli items. Larger items such as watermelons, pineapples and cantaloupes can also be cut down to individual serving sizes and Airmen can purchase the exact amount they need.

The deli department also provides a variety of options for Airmen living in the dorms. Items such as deli meat and cheese can be purchased based on the quantity an Airman wants. Deli clerks will also hand-craft sandwiches for customers who request them.  A panini machine will be installed in the coming weeks offering a choice for hot sandwiches.

The Commissary is always looking for new ways to better serve the Airmen of Team Dover and Lintz said he wants every customer to leave happy and satisfied.

"If you come in the Commissary and there is something you don't see, just ask," said Lintz. "We don't want anyone leaving disappointed or mad, just ask a manager if you have any questions about an item and we will double check to see if we have it in-stock. If we don't carry an item, we will do everything in our power to get it here and on the shelves."

Customers can also take advantage of the Commissary's "early bird" shopping hours. Tuesday through Friday from 7 to 9 a.m., customers can shop for 15 items or less and use the self-checkout lanes to finalize their transaction. The early bird hours provide an easy and convenient way for Airmen to conduct quick shopping for select items before the Commissary opens for regular business hours.

The new and welcomed additions of single serving options and convenient shopping hours have already proved to be favored by Airmen who live in the dorms and shop at the Commissary during FTI.

"Shopping at the commissary is very convenient for me," said Airman 1st Class Lauren Dunlap, 436th Communications Squadron client systems technician. "I like the new salad bar; it provides me with a quick way to get a good tasting and healthy lunch."
