Military duties can be stressful. The Outdoor Recreation center helps by offering military members ways to alleviate that burden.

Outdoor Recreation is a one stop shop for Team Dover members to get sports or camping equipment, as well as discounted movie and amusement park tickets. The information, tickets and travel section also offers discounts on vacation packages and cruises.

"The ITT helps military members save money," said Patricia Audy, Outdoor Recreation specialist. "Companies such as amusement parks and Carmike theater give us tickets at discounted rates and we turn around and pass them on to Team Dover," said Audy.

The ITT schedules regular trips for Team Dover members at a nominal fee to places such as New York City and Washington, D.C., and they have a 54-passenger coach bus to support these.

"When the bus is not in use by us, it is available for rent by those who are authorized to have access to base," said Chris Smith, Outdoor Recreation manager. "We provide the driver and fuel so all they have to do is get on and have a great time."

Outdoor Recreation has equipment for activities such as canoeing, camping, mountain biking, hiking and kayaking. They also sell hunting and fishing licenses, state park passes and surf fishing permits.

Smith said Outdoor Recreation offers its services to Dover's active duty, reserve, retired and civilians.

"We rent a lot of equipment that is not available in the area and we rent it at a substantial discount compared to what they would get the same equipment for off base," said Smith.

Aside from rental equipment, Outdoor Recreation also has a recreational vehicle storage lot, skeet range, outdoor swimming pool, two parks and a resale lot for military members to sell their vehicles.

"One of the things Outdoor Recreation provides is recreation," said Smith. "We try to introduce people to new things in hopes that they will take their families."

Outdoor Recreation is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. They are also open on Saturdays, but only during the time frame of April 1 to Sept. 30, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
