Open house: A display of 'American Airpower' Published Aug. 24, 2017 By Col Ethan Griffin 436th Airlift Wing DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- Airmen, Civilians, and Families of Team Dover, Over the weekend of August 26-27th, our installation is hosting the “Thunder Over Dover” Open House. We hope that you are as excited as we are for our first airshow in eight years! We look forward to celebrating your service in the world’s greatest Air Force while thanking our civilian community for their unwavering support throughout Dover Air Force Base’s 75 years. These events afford a valuable opportunity for our Airmen to tell their “American Airpower” story. Each day, at home and around the world, Dover Airmen are “Delivering Excellence” in Rapid Global Mobility—protecting our freedoms, sharing our democratic values, and representing this fine community. As you enjoy the many aerial demonstrations, static displays, and entertainment venues, please keep the following four points in mind: Precision and Class: Please treat the Open House with the same attention to detail and selflessness as you demonstrate in your service to our nation. Let’s extend Team Dover dignity and respect towards each and every one of our guests. All-In Team Effort: Every member of Team Dover has a role to play in making our Open House a tremendous success. On behalf of Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Orfe, Airshow Director, and his entire planning team, we sincerely thank all volunteers for their efforts. Tell Our Airmen’s Story! Our Air Force is the world’s greatest because we fly on the contrails of those before us. Many Airmen past will look to relive their glory days while hearing how you have carried the torch. Many civilian patriots will come to build a connection. This is our chance to show what makes us exceptional: teamwork. Be proud of who you are and your role in the mission—share your story! Hospitality and Customer Service: Dover Air Force Base is unique as one of a select few installations in the Department of Defense that shares its’ hometown name. We represent our nation…we represent our Air Force…we represent Dover, our home in this Great First State. Let’s treat our guests with courtesy, friendliness, and mid-Atlantic hospitality. Whether a retired veteran who has been on base a thousand times or a family introducing their children to their first airshow, please join us in our commitment to making this weekend memorable for all. In our Air Force’s 70th year, Dover AFB’s 75th year, and the City of Dover’s 300th year of existence, we are honored to be a part of this historic chapter. On behalf of the men and women of Team Dover, Command Chief Sarah Sparks and I look forward to seeing you at the Open House. Aim High...Dover Pride! Respectfully, Col Ethan Griffin Commander, 436th Airlift Wing, Dover AFB, DE
