I hope everyone had as much fun at the Air Force Ball as I did!

Despite tropical storm Hanna's best efforts, we celebrated the birth of the U.S. Air Force and the 60th Anniversary of the Air Force Reserve in grand style with a sold-out crowd! Lt. Gen. Charles Stenner, Air Force Reserve Command commander, delivered a terrific keynote speech and Blue Aces, from the Air Force Heritage Band closed down the evening.

Thank you to Capt. Barbara McCoy, 436th Services Squadron, the entire Air Force Ball Committee and all the volunteers who made this one of the most memorable Air Force Ball's in Dover's history!

We also held our annual Military Construction breakfast this week at The Landings Club. More than 170 community and base leaders converged on DAFB to gain awareness of our long list of base infrastructure improvements. The event was a huge success!

The highlight of this year's breakfast was the option for community partners to tour the installation and see first hand how we accomplish our mission, while caring for our Airmen and their families. Time and again, our civic leaders made mention of your courteous, professional and enthusiastic attitudes.

I certainly agree - of all the things I enjoy about being a member of the world's greatest Air and Space Force, nothing stands out in my mind more than the quality of the people. Thanks for making our local community so proud of DAFB!

Speaking of showcases, thanks so much for the warm welcome to Maj. Gen. and Mrs. Scott, 18th Air Force commander and first lady, and Chief Master Sgt. Cody, 18tt Air Force command chief master sergeant, during their visit this week! It was a great opportunity to highlight your hard work, innovation and dedication to accomplishing our mission around the world and around the clock!

Although we were only able to offer a taste of Dover excellence during their short stay, I guarantee they all left with a terrific appreciation of the incredible contribution you make daily to America's defense. Great work!

Thursday we welcomed Brig. Gen. Barbara Faulkenberry, Air Mobility Command deputy director of strategic plans, requirements and programs. General Faulkenberry delivered our twelfth C-17. As always, the event was an overwhelming success and I look forward to seeing our newest aircraft in the fight immediately!

Now, only one Dover C-17 is left at the factory and its Oct. 8 arrival will be an event you won't want to miss as Gen. Arthur Lichte, Air Mobility Command commander, makes it a "full house" at America's Preeminent Expeditionary Airlift Team! See you there!
