  • Stay home - Empower lives

    “Stay home. Save lives.” These words blinked on the overhead traffic sign as I sped down what was usually a jammed highway. The eerie emptiness outside reminded me of one of those apocalyptic Hollywood movie scenes – You know, the one where the protagonist is desperately searching through the heart of a megacity for signs of a single human soul. But in my case, I knew my fellow Americans were all around me, hidden and huddled in their domiciles in an effort to #FlattenTheCurve

    Struggling with depression doesn’t make you any less of an Airman. This simple statement, repeated many times during my counseling sessions, is often the catalyst to helping Airmen open up and begin their healing process. And make no mistake about it – Depression is a “silent disease.” “Silent,” because the social stigma attached to people struggling with depression too often forces people into silence. And that silence is deadly.
  • Who do you want to be?

    In any organization, people can feel pressured to conform to a certain mold in order to be accepted by the group. In the Air Force, this is a reality for many, regardless of whether or not their perceptions are founded. Personally, I have always ascribed to just doing my own thing and doing it well. Trust me: we need you more than you need to fit a certain mold.
