436th MDG edges out 436th LRS

DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. --  If your team has been sitting in first place all season, you can expect other teams to be gunning for you, regardless of their record. Such was the case Monday night in the flag-football game between the first place 436th Medical Group and the 436th Logistics Readiness Squadron at Dover Air Force Base, Del.

The 436th MDG quarterback and coach, Ian Money, threw a 38-yard touchdown pass and ran 10 yards for another score as his team held on to defeat 436th LRS 14-8.

"As the season winds down, we're getting every team's best shot," said Money. "Everyone is trying to get into the postseason."

The 436th MDG took control early, stifling 436th LRS's opening drive by intercepting them in the end zone. The 436th MDG scored on their first possession as Money threw a 38-yard strike to Aaron Williams.

The score remained that way until midway through the second half when Money added a score on a 10-yard run to give 436th MDG a 14-0 lead.

With their playoff dreams fading away, the 436th LRS offense finally woke up, scoring a touchdown and a two-point conversion to cut the 436th MDG's lead to 14-8 with 1:50 remaining on the clock.

But it was too little, too late, as the 436th Med Group ran out the clock to remain in first place.

"The difference in the game was their long touchdown pass and us throwing an interception in the end zone," said Scott Chadwick, the coach of the 436th LRS. "We had a lot of missed opportunities. Our playoff hopes are slim now. We just have to play it out until the last game of the season and do our best."

With the playoffs starting next week, Money said his team will work on a few things as they look to do in the playoffs what they did in the regular season, finish in first place.

"We just want to continue to get better," Money said. "We need to work on being a team and trusting each other. We also need to work on our route running and our communication."
