KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – An M16A2 assault rifle rests against a beam prior to a firing range exercise at Kandahar Airfield May 6, 2013. Manufactured by Colt Manufacturing and Fabrique Nationale Manufacturing, Inc., the M16A2 rifle is the primary weapon employed by Afghan National Army and Afghan Air Force personnel. The weapon uses 5.56mm ammunition, which is fired at a velocity of approximately 3,100 feet per second, and is capable of engaging point targets up to 550m away.
