SECNAV awards MARSOC Marines, Sailor with high combat valor awards

Three Marines and one Sailor with the 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Special Operations Command, were awarded the nation's second and third highest awards for combat valor by Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus at a ceremony attended by Maj. Gen. Mark A. Clark, commander of MARSOC; Maj. Gen. John A. Toolan Jr., commanding general of the I Marine Expeditionary Force; and others at 1st MSOB headquarters aboard Camp Pendleton, Calif., Dec. 3, 2012. Sergeant William B. Soutra was awarded the Navy Cross and Maj. James T. Rose, Staff Sgt. Frankie J. Shinost and Hospitalman 1st Class Patrick B. Quill were each awarded the Silver Star for extraordinary heroism exhibited during a combat mission in Helmand province, Afghanistan nearly two years ago. Available in high definition.
