180330-N-ZP059-0001 BREMERTON Wash., (Mar. 30, 2018) – In honor of the first African American Chief Petty Officer John Henry "Dick" Turpin, a Memorial marker was placed on the gravesite of his first wife Anna Turpin at Ivy Green Cemetery in Bremerton, March 30. Chief Turpin died in 1962 and was buried at Sea. No Service or Memorial was placed in his honor. The Pacific Northwest Chief Petty Officer Association sponsored the memorial marker.
