BLT 1/4, VMM-164 (Rein), Marines, Sailors depart USS Somerset to Baledogle Military

210105-M-QM580-2001 INDIAN OCEAN (Jan. 5, 2021) – U.S. Marines with Battalion Landing Team 1/4 and Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 164 (Reinforced), both with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, depart the amphibious transport dock ship USS Somerset (LPD 25) to Baledogle Military Airfield, Somalia. Somerset, part of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, and the 15th MEU conduct operations under Joint Task Force – Quartz in support of OOQ. The mission of OOQ is to relocate U.S. Department of Defense forces in Somalia to other East Africa operating locations while maintaining pressure on violent extremists and supporting partner forces.
