April 6, 2018 | 1:40
Petty Officer 1st Class Kevin O'Connor, an operations specialist, discusses the importance of emergency position indicating radio beacons and personal locator beacons in honor of 406 MHz Day on April 6, 2018 at Sector Houston-Galveston in Houston, Texas. In 2017, within the United States and its surrounding waters, 275 people owed their rescue to the use of 406 MHz distress signals and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration satellites, which are part of the international search and rescue satellite-aided tracking system.
