U.S. Soldiers with 1st Battalion, 214th Aviation Regiment (General Support Aviation Battalion) [1-214 AVN] practice fueling procedures by utilizing a field expedient method commonly referred to as “Fat Cow.” This method consists of using the CH-47F Chinook helicopter as a fuel source for other motorized vehicles. The CH-47 can carry several 800-gallon fuel system tanks in its cabin where are then used to fill fuel tanks of other vehicles. This method is for Forward Arming and Refueling Points (FARP) in areas where ground resources may not be feasible. Oberdachstetten Local Training Area, Ansbach, Germany, Apr. 4, 2024.
