Leadership Engagement Toolkit: Daily Safety Briefing
Defense Health Agency - E&T
April 22, 2017 | 6:22
In order to learn from our errors and prevent future harmful events, the Military Health System has embraced its high reliability organization (HRO) Guiding Principles and has assembled a set of evidence-based strategies called the Leadership Engagement Toolkit that have been successfully used in health care settings across the nation. One of these strategies is called the Daily Safety Briefing.

A daily safety briefing, also known as a daily check-in, is a scheduled 15 minute meeting composed of the C-Suite Senior and Operational Leaders and all department and unit leaders of the organization. The meeting takes place first thing in the morning and can be held via conference call or in person. The focus is to review significant safety or quality issues with an “everyone checks-in” mentality using a three-point agenda: Look Back, Look Ahead, and Follow Up. Check out the video to see how you can implement or refine the Daily Safety Briefing in your organization.
