APS delivers defeat to CS in season opener Published Sept. 6, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Samuel Taylor 436th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del -- The 436th Aerial Port Squadron emerged victorious from their gridiron showdown against the 436th Communications Squadron with a score of 21 - 8 Sept. 1, 2011, at Dover Air Force Base, Del. This was the first game of the season. According to both teams, it was a fair showing despite the offseason rust. "We were still working the kinks out, but it was an A-plus effort on the field," said Nick Reid, the 436 APS captain. "We did fine for the first game; it was a good turnout today," said Tyler Bagby, the 436 CS captain. 436 APS got off to an early lead, with Austin Sissel and Joshua Orozco scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter. 436 CS remained silent throughout the half and went to the sidelines suffering a 0 - 14 deficit at halftime. Both teams gave up interceptions throughout the game; the long-passing game was problematic. 436 APS lost possession twice to interceptions, while the 436 CS threw one pick. "Our defense was superb in producing the turnover, but we had several issues with ball control ourselves," said Reid. The 436 CS finally got on the board with a touchdown and subsequent two-point conversion, yet could not capitalize on the momentum. A final, late-game touchdown by 436 APS' Robert Preston sealed the fate of the 436 CS. "We have set plays on paper, but not enough practice to execute them on the field," said Bagby. "Down the road, we need to focus on catching the ball." It's a long road for both teams, but each has taken their first step towards hopes of post-season conquest.
