The USO Delaware is always looking for creative ways to spread morale andĀ help those in uniform in any way they can.

This holiday season they came up with an idea to create a partnership with the fourth grade class at Welch Elementary.

A few years ago, according to Joan Cote, USO Delaware director, a large amount of paper bags were donated to the USO from the base commissary. They have since been using these bags in various ways, but since a recent donation of edible holiday treats, an idea was sparked to combine the two donations in a way that would put a smile on any servicemember's face.

The bags were sent over to Welch Elementary to be decorated in art class by the fourth grade class using holiday themes. The bags were then filled with the donated goodies, and a note from the USO with happy holiday wishes.

They have since coordinated with various commanders to hand out these 'goodie bags' to servicemembers deploying this holiday season, and to be handed out at Operation Cookie Drop Dec. 23.
