436th CS defeats 436th MDG 6-3 in softball season opener Published July 1, 2009 By Staff Sgt. Chad Padgett 436th AW Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- After weeks of rainy weather, the bright sunlight and cool breeze kicked off the intramural softball season July 29 as the 436th Communications Squadron defeated the 436th Medical Group 6-3. The medical group had started out strong early in the game, scoring in the first inning with the help of a few errors by the communications squadron. "We need to work on team dynamics and produce fundamental softball, as opposed to just throwing the ball around and creating a bunch of errors, which is what hurt us last year," said Joshua Solomon, 436th CS coach. After three innings of a close game, a bases-loaded triple by David Arceneaux, 436th CS third baseman, gave a dominant lead to 436th CS, which the 436th MDG was not able to overcome. "For our first game I think we did pretty well," said Rhonda Russell, 436th MDG coach. "Now we have a starting point for how we work together in a game. We're going to be more organized and come back strong." While both teams made a strong showing for the first game, both teams knew it was going to be a competitive season. "I looked at the American League and there is a lot of good teams coming out," said Solomon. "It's going to be a competitive season, especially in our league, but we're going to have fun and hopefully rack up some wins."
