The Auto Hobby Shop is hosting the annual Super Street Car, Truck and Bike Show, Aug. 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Air Mobility Command Museum. This is an event for the whole family with street car, truck and motorcycle exhibits, new car displays, a Youth Pinewood Derby and live band.

In past years the show has attracted more than 65 vehicles and 300 spectators and this year, the event is free and open to the public.

For those who idolized Elvis, The Beatles and cruising down the strip, the Super Street Car, Truck and Bike Show offers a classic exhibit featuring vehicles up to the '80s. Participants compete for various trophies including the coveted "Best Restoration" award.

There will also be a custom category for the youth to show off new-generation street cars and trucks.

According to Xan Salas, Arts & Crafts Center manager, a large percentage of the Auto Hobby Shop's customer base is made up of young Airmen getting creative with import vehicles. This is a phenomenon that has taken the U.S. by storm.

"The interest is high for customizing vehicles," said Ms. Salas. "The Auto Hobby Shop staff would like to promote the fact that we have the facility and tools to meet the needs of all our customers."

With 15 work bays that include a paint booth and body-work area, tools of the trade, and a skilled staff, the Auto Shop is the right place for car enthusiasts to hook up their rides.

David Kabina, Auto Shop supervisor, said that it's amazing what customers create here at the shop. The car show is a great way for the Dover community to really have a chance to see up close the creativity and talent these individuals possess.

Along with classic and custom vehicles, participants can compete in several motorcycle categories.

"Some of our customers prefer two wheels instead of four," said Mr. Kabina. "By offering motorcycle-class categories, another dimension of interest is added for both participants and audience. Trophies will be awarded for both traditional and sport bikes."

Big toys will not be the only feature at the show. Ssimilar to past years there will be a youth Pine Wood Derby.

"The derby gets the little folks involved," said Ms. Salas. "This activity promotes family time and uplifts the spirit of the base."

The Arts & Crafts Center is offering a pinewood car making class Aug. 9 at 10 a.m. for youth up to 12 years old. Children can build and prepare cars for the derby. The custom kits can be purchased at the center. The Arts & Crafts Center supplies the paint and instructions during the class.

All vehicles participating in the show must be registered by Aug. 8. For more information contact the Auto Hobby Shop at 677-3249 or 677-3246.
