Dover AFB firefighters compete for "Fireslayer of the Year" award

Off with the wings
DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- A contractor removes portions from the April 3, 2006 C-5 mishap aircraft here this week. The contractor began by stripping the interior of the plane of all waste and contaminants. They then cut the wings off the plane Jan. 24 with a set of giant mobile shears. Daedalian Award Team visit
Airman 1st Class William Werner (right), 436th Maintenance Squadron aircraft metals technologist, briefs Col. William Wootton, Air Mobility Command Maintenance Division chief and Daedalian Award Team chief, and the rest of his team at the “Monster Garage” in Building 721 here Monday about various modifications to vehicles at Dover to increase load capacity and improve loading systems. Dover is one of three AMC bases in the running for the Maj. Gen. Clements McMullen Memorial Weapons System Maintenance Trophy. The award is presented annually to a U.S. Air Force unit at the wing level for having the best weapon system maintenance record for the preceding calendar year. This is the first time Dover AFB has been a finalist for the award since 1986. The AMC Daedalian Award Team arrived here Sunday for a two-day tour of various facilities to observe the integration of maintenance with the total wing mission. The team’s itinerary included the “Monster Garage,” Isochronal Inspection Dock, Air Force Smart Operations 21 classroom, Combined Avionics System Trainer, and all other maintenance related facilities.
