The rock of the honor guard is a teaching tool used to train all new Airmen the importance of attention to detail. One side of the rock is rough and cracked, the other is smooth, showing the airmen who they were before they joined the honor guard, and who they are after. Often, the trainers hide the rock and task the recruits with finding it and placing it back in its proper place. If the flight fails to find it, they must do push-ups as a consequence. This teaches the flight attention to detail is key as a member of the honor guard. (U.S. Air Force photo by Jason Minto/Released)
