Civil Air Patrol The Civil Air Patrol is the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force and is a volunteer, nonprofit corporation, which performs three missions: Emergency Services, Cadet Programs and Aerospace Education. The local unit, located on Dover Air Force Base is the Dover Composite Squadron, which offers a full range of cadet and senior member activities supporting these missions. The Cadet Program is for youth between 12 and 18 years old. Cadets take part in leadership training, aerospace education, community service activities, and emergency services training and missions. Cadets can apply for solo flying scholarships, attend summer encampments, practice search and rescue skills, learn first aid and communications skills, be part of the CAP drill team or color guard, fly with CAP orientation pilots, and participate in many other activities. The Senior Member Program is for anyone over 18 years old and offers a wide verity of volunteer opportunities. CAP senior members join to be Cessna 172/182 mission pilots, observers or scanners; aerospace educators; help prepare cadets for military careers; be active in community service; or join because their children have joined as cadets. Dover Composite Squadron meets every Monday night from 7 to 9 p.m. in hanger 918, which is located at the north end of airfield. New Cadet and Senior member volunteers are always welcome.
