Scott brings Icon award to Dover AFB Published Oct. 25, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Kathryn Stilwell 436th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- Senior Airman Naomi Scott from the 436th Maintenance Squadron was awarded the coveted 2011 Air Mobility Icon title Oct. 20, 2011 at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. Scott took the top prize among 10 other competitors. The AMC Icon is based on the show "American Idol" to demonstrate the vocal talents of Airmen. For the past four years, each AMC base holds Icon contests in July and August to decide who will represent them in the final contest at Scott AFB. This time a Team Dover member brought home the award. Scott won over the judges by singing Adele's "Rolling in the Deep." "Her voice is a gift and [everyone] who hears her sing should consider themselves very lucky," said Maj. Eliot Sasson, the commander of the 436th Maintenance Squadron. "I am ecstatic for her and proud of her." Scott was runner-up for AMC Icon in 2010 and this was her third attempt at the competition. "It's amazing to win this competition," said Scott. "There is a lot of great talent here and it's a great experience to come here and do this. Coming back a third time and winning it was special." As the winner of this year's contest, Scott received $1, 000 along with a first place trophy. She was also invited to audition with Air Force Tops in Blue - the Air Force's entertainment group of Airmen who help to boost the morale of service members across the world. "Like all our Airman, I would like to see her pursue her dreams, wherever they may lead...and for Naomi, singing is her dream," said Sasson. "If that is in Tops in Blue then of course I would support [her]. But of course we would miss her at Dover [Air Force Base, Del.] Years from now when I look back at my tour at Dover [AFB] , I am certain that one of the fondest memories I will have is Senior Airman Scott singing at the many different wing functions."
