Dover Air Force Base, Del., is showing off its hard work from the past year to five inspectors from across the Air Force Sept. 16, 2011.

Air Mobility Command chose Dover AFB as one of two finalists for the Commander-in-Chief's Installation Excellence Award. The Installation Excellence Selection Committee will be touring more than 25 offices and shops around the base.

The award, which recognizes outstanding and innovative efforts of the people who operate and maintain U.S. military installations, is presented annually to one installation from each branch of service, along with a $1 million incentive award to invest in quality-of-life projects.

This is the third time in four years Dover AFB was selected as a finalist for the AMC award. Dover AFB was awarded first place in the 2008 CINC IEA at the Air Force level and not allowed to compete in 2009 since a base cannot win two years in a row. The base won second place in 2010 CINC IEA competition at the Air Force level.

The two awards have brought more than $1.5 million to the base, which was used for projects such as solar-powered crosswalk lights, the new Liberty ParkĀ and new running tracks with workout equipment.

"We are a finalist at the AMC level due to the hard work and professionalism of all of our Airmen, our civilians and their families," said Col. Mark Camerer, the commander of the 436th Airlift Wing. "We look forward to showcasing the excellence of Team Dover and moving on to the Air Force-level competition!"
