436th MDG supplies H1N1 flu vaccinations Published Jan. 26, 2010 By Lt. Col. James Cowan 436th Medical Group DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- The 436th Medical Group Immunization Clinic has an abundant supply of the H1N1 vaccine and is ready to immunize 436th Airlift Wing active-duty, military retirees and dependents. The 2009 H1N1 flu is still circulating in our community. Many children and adults remain susceptible and would benefit from this vaccination. Children from six months through nine years of age must receive two doses of 2009 H1N1 flu vaccine to receive sufficient protection against the 2009 H1N1 flu. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the two doses of vaccine be separated by 30 days. The Immunization Clinic will administer the vaccine to individuals with DoD identification cards Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The clinic is closed federal holidays and the second Tuesday of each month at noon for training. Military retirees and dependents who received H1N1 flu and seasonal flu vaccines from non-military healthcare providers are strongly encouraged to drop off their immunization paperwork to the 436th MDG Public Health Flight who, in turn, will enter the vaccination information into the Air Force's Immunization Tracking System. By completing this step, a family member's Air Force medical record will be more complete and available to the member for future reference. Patients who are immune-compromised, have an allergy to eggs or latex, or a history of Guillain-Barre Syndrome will need a prescription from their physician to receive the flu vaccine. For more information, call the Immunization Clinic at 677-2478 or 677-2681.
