CFC campaign gets ready for kickoff - Annual drive raises funds for charities Published Sept. 27, 2007 By Tech. Sgt. Kevin Wallace 436th AW Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- Wing, group, squadron and work-center point of contacts are spinning up their campaign wheels as Dover Air Force Base moves into this year's scheduled Combined Federal Campaign drive, due to begin Oct. 9 here. The drive will begin with a kickoff luncheon at The Landings Oct. 9 and another luncheon to conclude the drive Nov. 19. "This annual fall fund-raising drive allows nearly 4 million federal employees and military personnel to contribute to thousands of local and national nonprofit organizations," said Capt. Thomas Abell, 436th Mission Support Squadron Military Personnel Flight commander and this season's Team Dover CFC representative. The CFC was established in 1961 and is the largest workplace charity campaign in the country. This year's CFC theme is 'Help Our World Forward' which is the epitome of Team Dover Airmen - military and civilians alike, he said. "What makes Team Dover Airmen a step above is camaraderie and teamwork," he elaborated. "In the face of enemy and disaster alike, our Airmen band together and literally 'watch each others backs.' The CFC is no different, Airmen emotionally and financially watching each others backs." According to CFC officials, on average, one in four federal employees or their dependents will benefit from the CFC charities this year. "With 25 percent of Team Dover needing our help, we can all afford to pitch in a dollar or two," he said. "When you complete your pledge form this year, consider designating one or more charities through payroll deduction or cash donation. It's a painless process that pays huge dividends. "In many cases," he continued, "Airmen will donate year after year to the CFC only to find that someday they need the help of one of these charities, so it's never too late to Help Our World Forward."
