The Dover AFB Tax Center will be offering free tax preparation from February 1, 2014 to April 15, 2014. Tax preparation is available for active duty, reservists, and retirees, as well as their dependents. Dover AFB Tax Center will offer three options to help you complete your tax return.

1. Clients may e-file tax returns for free by visiting www.myfreetaxes.com/DoverAFBTaxCenter. Tax volunteers will be available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for assistance by phone at 302-677-3795 or by email at doverafbtaxcenter@gmail.com. Tax volunteers will make every effort to respond to inquiries within 24 hours. Important reminder: DO NOT send personal identifying information such as social security numbers, attachments or W-2 forms to the provided gmail account from your government e-mail.

2. Clients may walk-in Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. During walk-in hours, clients will prepare their own tax returns at one of the computer stations. A trained tax volunteer will be on-duty to answer any questions you may have.

3. Clients may schedule an appointment with one of our trained tax volunteers. During the appointment, the tax volunteer will prepare and e-file your tax returns for you. Appointments are available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please call 302-677-3300 to schedule an appointment. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time.

Before Your Appointment:

Complete the Client Intake Interview and review the list of items you may need to file your tax return. Failure to bring required items, such as proof of social security numbers, W-2 forms, 2012 tax returns, and powers of attorney, if applicable, may result in having to reschedule the appointment.

Please be advised that our trained volunteers are not tax accountants. They are active duty, retirees, or civilians who have taken a short course in basic tax preparation. They are not trained to file complicated tax returns. If you have extensive investments, income or loss from a rental property, a personal business, limited partnerships, foreign investments, casualty or theft losses, you will be referred to a professional tax advisor.
