2013 CCAF graduates recognized Published Nov. 26, 2013 By Senior Airman Jared Duhon 436th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- Eighty-seven Community College of the Air Force associate degrees were awarded during a commencement ceremony held Nov. 25, 2013, at the base theater here. The CCAF degrees were presented by Col. Randall Huis, 436th Airlift Wing vice commander, and Chief Master Sgt. James Smith, 436th AW command chief. Though all graduates were honored, some were not able to attend due to deployments, permanent changes of station, retirements or separations. The CCAF is the largest accredited community college in the United States, exclusively for Air Force enlisted members. CCAF awards Associate in Applied Science degrees and certifications to students who successfully complete the program in their designated Air Force specialties. Completion of a CCAF degree is challenging, but a huge accomplishment for Airmen. Students are required to complete 60 credit hours in their designated program while working full-time and maintaining balanced personal and family lives. In addition to a CCAF degree, two graduates, Staff Sgt. Luis Maldanado, 436th Force Support Squadron Airman Leadership School instructor, and Staff Sgt. Aaron Waltersdorff, 436th Contracting Squadron contracting officer, were presented Pitsenbarger Awards during the ceremony. The Pitsenbarger Award is given to enlisted personnel graduating from the CCAF who plan to continue to pursue a baccalaureate degree.
