The flag football championship game, played Nov. 17, found the 736th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron in first place and 436th Civil Engineer Squadron as runners up.

Before the playoffs began 736 AMXS was not sure how they would fair throughout the season.

"We were a new group, we'd never played together. We had the potential, but didn't have the chemistry yet," said Jason Jones, 736 AMXS team coach.

At one point prior to the playoffs they had 2 wins and 5 loses. "We made a huge push after that point," said Jones, "we knew we were better than that."

The teams entered the game knowing this could take two games to decide the champ. 736 AMXS entered with a playoff record of 4-1, and 436 CES, undefeated.

436 CES had defeated 736 AMXS in the playoffs before. If they won this game they would take first place, but 736 AMXS had stepped up their game since they'd seen them last.

After a slow, low-scoring first half, 736 AMXS had the lead through the second half and won. This left the two teams with an even number of wins, requiring another game to determine the victor.

As the second game picked up, it was looking like the Mercy Rule might come into effect with 736 AMXS leading 20 - 0.

436 CES rebutted with a slow, but deliberate, touchdown making the score 20 - 6.

436 CES continued with their momentum intercepting a pass and converting it to points on the board. With the score 20 - 12, 736 AMXS needed to hang on to the ball.

736 AMXS scored ending the game at 26 - 12.

Coach Jones was proud of his team, stating he knew they would win it.

"We've had some trying times, but we pulled through. I'm very happy with my team," said Jones.

436 CES team coach declined to comment.
