The 436th Airlift Wing Command Post has been honored as the 2013 Air Mobility Command Large Command Post of the Year.

"Congratulations to all the winners," wrote Maj. Gen. Scott M. Hanson, AMC director of operations, in an email to the winners. "We can take great pride in their contributions to AMC, the U.S. Air Force and the United States of America."

The 436th AW Command Post's performed its mission of providing accurate, timely and proactive command and control supporting Team Dover's diverse mission by orchestrating rapid communication for the 436th AW, tenant units and headquarters while managing AMC and Department of Defense resources transiting Dover AFB, to the upmost highest degree of proficiency.

"Being a Command Post Airman, you are rarely seen. We have one of those thankless jobs where if everything is going right, nobody hears about it," said Tech. Sgt. Andre Leonard, 436th AW/CP NCO in charge of training. "But if something is going wrong, everyone hears about it. So this is the one time that we've been recognized for working hard and being the best large command post in AMC."

Throughout 2013, the Eagle Wing's Command Post was AMC's workhorse, leading the safe launch and recovery of 4,866 missions with 128,999 tons of cargo and 18,458 passengers. This included 74 percent of cargo transported into Afghanistan and providing 40 percent of the DoD's total strategic airlift.

Senior Airman Scott Chamberland, 436th AW/CP emergency actions controller, said he feels proud that his command post is being recognized.

"It makes me feel like we are part of something important, especially with all the processes we handle, including those as big as the dignified transfers," said Chamberland.

Other highlights for the command post included: four Wing Staff Agencies Quarterly Award winners, three Airmen deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, the enrollment of 33 percent of the Airmen in higher education, 106 volunteer hours toward community outreach, and coordination of the Eagle Wing's Toys-for-Tot's drive that provided toys for 274 underprivileged children.

"As we continue to fight the overseas contingency operations and support many other operations and exercises at home and abroad; I am very proud to know the Armed Forces are being supported by AMC command posts, Air Mobility Control Centers, and command post controllers of such high caliber," wrote Maj. Gen. Hanson. "No one comes close!"
