U.S. Army National Guard helicopters fly hurricane Helene relief missions across the South-North Carolinas border
South Carolina National Guard
Oct. 5, 2024 | 18:02
U.S. Army National Guard Soldiers and helicopters from three states assigned to Task Force Aviation, South Carolina Army National Guard, fly relief missions across the South-North Carolinas border, in support of emergency-response operations post hurricane Helene, Western North Carolina, Oct. 2-5, 2024. Task Force Aviation included crews and aircraft from Florida, New York, and South Carolina. The missions were flown daily from Greenville, South Carolina, as part of a multi-state, relief effort to provide aid to communities that have become isolated in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Helene made landfall on Sept. 26, in Florida, as a category 4 hurricane. The storm caused historical-level floodings in western North Carolina and power outages affecting over 1.2 million people in South Carolina, and over 3 million across Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. The South Carolina National Guard continues to respond to disaster relief requests for assistance from federal, local, and state agencies.
