Tech Warrior OPS Participant Spotlight; Ascent Solar Technologies
Air Force Research Laboratory
April 19, 2020 | 2:07
Ascent Solar Technologies, a small business, has developed a lightweight, portable solar panel for the warfighter. The typical solar panel array is something you would expect to see on a rooftop which is mono or polycrystalline, made of glass. Ascent Solar Technologies has developed a thin film CIGS solar solution which is a very flexible, lightweight made from plastic. Using a process called monolithic integration which builds in redundancy, their solar panels can be shot, run over, dropped, kicked, and it still works.
