Recruiting duty is a career-enhancing, arduous shore duty tour. It often provides opportunities for Sailors to be stationed in or near their hometowns. Sailors also earn Special Duty Assignment Pay and learn additional skills outside of their traditional rating; learn advanced communication and presentation skills, which help personal and professional development; serve in an independent duty assignment which is also career-enhancing, and have the opportunity to serve as an ambassador for the Navy across the country with many Americans who do not know anything about their Navy.
