May 24, 2013 | 3:02
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recognizes the critical role that Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education plays in enabling the United States to remain an economic and technological leader. The Corps Los Angeles District, the U.S. Army eCYBERMISSION and local community organizations recently joined forces to expand STEM opportunities at Compton High School’s first “All things Science Day.” In addition to providing judges, the district teamed with the U.S. Army Ecybermission, a STEM web based interactive contest, created by the US Army, by providing a volunteer ambassador who introduced students to the eCyberMission contest. Judges from the district carefully reviewed and scored more than seventy projects at campus science department . Richard E. Gant, an American film and television, who volunteered his time with the Dakar foundation, co-created a digital newsroom that hosted a three screen discussion between student journalist and STEM panel members throughout the nation. The digital newsroom introduced students to various new media technologies via Livestream, Twitter and Face Book social media applications.
