March 14, 2014 | 2:51
B-roll of U.S. Coast Guard District 14 loading and transporting Hawaiian monk seal in a MH-65 helicopter. The seal was found ashore in Kauai and in critical condition. She was transported to a National Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration facility at Ford Island for surgery. NOAA surgeons had to remove her right eye because of a serious, life-threatening infection. Now she has recovered and is ready to be released into the wild. With only 1,100 monk seals alive in the world today protecting this highly endangered species is part of the Coast Guard's living marine resources initiative. Monk seals are the most endangered mammals in the world. Available in High Definition.
