Pittsburgh Distrct Commander Commemorates its 150th
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District
Aug. 3, 2016 | 0:47
Hello, I'm Col. John Lloyd, and I'm honored to be the new commander of the Pittsburgh District. I'm here on the corner of Third Avenue and Market Street, where 150 years ago today, Aug. 3, the U.S. army Corps of Enginners established the first temporary district office under the direction of William Milnor Roberts.
What started out as a single office now covers 26,000 square miles, 328 miles of navigable waterways, 23 locks and dams, 16 multipurpose reservoirs, and 42 lock flood risk management projects.
Happy anniversary Pittsburgh District -- we look forward to the next 150 years of servicing the region and the nation.
